Mental and physical health are not separable.
Conventional medicine has long separated mental health from medical care, often to the detriment of both. The patient with chronic GI disease who is also depressed is one patient, not two. The patient struggling with weight is rarely struggling only with biochemistry. Hormonal status affects mood; sleep affects everything; chronic stress affects cardiovascular outcomes.
At the practice, mental health is part of every annual physical. When ongoing care is appropriate, members are referred to our psychotherapy and psychiatric services within the practice — same standard of confidentiality, but with the structural advantage of having all your providers under one coordinated roof.
Confidential, premium, deliberate.
Mental health care benefits enormously from the same access guarantees that define the rest of the practice — same-day or 24-hour appointments when needed, direct provider messaging, no waiting rooms shared with the general medical schedule, continuity with a clinician who knows your history.
Our mental health services are coordinated with primary care, lifestyle medicine, and the practice's other specialty lines when appropriate (and only with consent). The structural integration is what allows mental health to be treated as a serious clinical concern rather than an afterthought.
A note on privacy.
Mental health records carry their own protections under federal and California law. Information from psychotherapy and psychiatric services is not shared with the rest of the practice without your explicit written consent for each disclosure. The integrated model means coordination is possible — it does not mean coordination is automatic.
